Priority Standards provide educators with a sharp and consistent focus for in-depth instruction and related assessment.  They provide students with multiple opportunities to learn those standards as opposed to a one-time instructional exposure to them.

Approaching Supporting Standards

On page 46, Larry provides a "fence" metaphor applied to priority standards. He then provides an application of it to when he was teaching geometric shapes in elementary math. Discuss what approach we might use to help other educators NOT approach prioritizing standards as "dumbing down" or out right ignoring non-prioritized standards.
