The students need to have a pencil and paper. A table will be provided by the teacher.

The student will need to have a measuring instrument, ruler, tape measure, etc.
Use a ruler, yardstick, or tape measure, measure the length and width of your bedroom.
Using the measurements of your bedroom, multiply length and width to find the square footage (area) of your bedroom.
Record information on data sheet.
The United States uses standard and/or metric measurements. Students should have rulers that are the same measurement-all standard or all metric. Give each student a copy of the teacher-made table.
Another activity you might do is on the chalkboard make two columns. Label the columns boys/girls. Write down the areas of bedrooms under appropriate column.
Duration: Graphing Time - 45 minutes
Your assignment is to find the area of your bedroom. A worksheet will be provided. Please complete the top portion of the worksheet at home. The bottom part will be completed in class. Please round all numbers to the nearest inch. Remember to measure parallel with the wall.
