Item Specifications (OK)

The item Specifications pdf files provided through this link will inform you on how to design your own test items to better reflect the questions students are provided on state tests.

Teacher Goals

  • An educator designs and creates a test item using the specifications identified in the appropriate Item Specifications resource.

Steps

  1. Review Test Item Example

    Discuss with your peers the features including format of the example test item.
  2. Access desired Item Specs

    Access the Item Specifications for your subject/grade level.
  3. Review Item Specs Format

    Review format of selected items specifications.
  4. Explore Item Specification Components

    Explore components including Standards/Objectives, test sample items, DoK.

    Explore and reflect on the item samples for your identified lowest and highest scoring objectives.








Teacher Notes

  • Allow:

    30 minutes



  • Do:

    Have participants access the Item Specifications for their subject/grade level. (Trainer use 5th grade math as example)
  • Go over Format of items specifications with participants.
  • Explore components: Standards/Objectives, test sample items, DoK. Allow time for participants to explore the item samples for their identified lowest and highest scoring objectives. Allow time for participants to explore and reflect.
  • Include a screen shot of an example test item to discuss how students could fail to get it correct.

    Also, include the OSDE PP on how to analyze test items. Look in Social Studies site.
