Collision is a cleaned-up version of "Catching Up." Please see the "read me first" file for a full discussion of the differences between "Collision" and "Catching Up."
The main focus of this activity is for students to encounter a situation where students solve a system of two linear equations. Throughout the activity, the student encounter concepts such as ratio and proportions, writing a linear equation given a table of collected data, determine the slope of a line, make inferences about the slope and its meaning in a real-world situation. Students will make inferences about the meaning of a linear system of equations as it applies to an application in the real world.
Crossing Point is a lesson for continued study of linear systems. In a short movie clip, two balls are rolled toward one another from opposite ends. The student will find the "crossing point."
This is a powerpoint to continue the study of linear systems. In this activity, the student will choose a method to solve and will decide which taxi is offering the best deal.
"Solving Systems" offers practice solving systems in problem situations. The student may choose which method to use and will pick a multiple choice answer.
