You will be using leaf characteristics to identify the different types of trees in your schoolyard. You will do this by collecting leaves, comparing their characteristics, and locating them in a tree identification handbook.

  You will need a tree identification book that shows different characteristics of leaves, such as:

• Basic folder with pockets
  
  Each student will need a basic folder with pockets to place the collected leaves in while outside in the schoolyard.

Steps

1. Leaf Gathering

   Each student should place two leaves from each tree into his/her folder. Make sure the leaves are in perfect condition with no holes. You need the leaf with the stem attached in order to correctly identify the leaf and tree.

2. Leaf Pressing

   Leaf Pressing 

   After collecting the leaves, you need to press the leaves.
