General Rubric Guidelines

This is an explanation of a six point rubric that can either be given to students to keep in their notebooks or could be posted in the classroom.  It is useful for any activity and could be adjusted to any point scale.

Degree of content understanding goes beyond grade level expectations: (outstanding grasp of main idea and significant supporting details), (presents interpretations, generalization, and/or predictions based on specific and compelling evidence)

Degree of content understanding represents high-quality grade level work: (thorough & accurate grasp of main idea and significant supporting details), (presents interpretations, generalization, and/or predictions based on specific and solid evidence)

Degree of content understanding fulfills grade level standard: (indicates an understanding of main ideas & relevant specific supporting details) (presents obvious interpretations, generalizations, and /or predictions based on adequate but not exhaustive evidence)

Degree of content understanding falls a bit short: (correctly identifies some main ideas;focuses on isolated details or misunderstandings or omits some significant details) (attempts to present interpretations, generalizations, and/or predictions, but fails to povide adequate support)

Degree of content understanding falls below grade level: (shows a fragmented, inaccurate, or incomplete understanding; presents random, imcomplete, or irrelevant evidence) (fails to provide supported interpretations, generalizations, and/or predictions, or provides those that are not supportable)
