The step Pyramid was built by Imhotep for King Zoser in Egypt about 2737-2717 BC at Giza,Egypt. The Pyramid was the first monumental royal tomb and one of the oldest structures in Egypt. It was called so because its successive layers of stone suggest a series of enormous steps. It is a four sided Pyramid.
The prototype of the true Pyramid was the step pyramid, so called because its successive layers of stone suggest a series of enormous steps. The most famous and best preserved of the step pyramids is that of Aqqrah, near Cairo, built around 2700 b.c.
It was built for king Zoser of the third dynasty. Its designer, Inhotep was later deified by the Egyptians for his work.
The bent pyramid--Sneferu began a straight sided pyramid at Dahshur. Halfway up, the engineers panicked. They thought that the sides were too steep, so they changed it to a more gentler slope and created the bent pyramid.
From the fourth dynasty on all of the pyramids had straight sides. These represented sunbeams so the pharaoh could walk up to be with the sun god Ra.
