It is essential to use content-specific vocabulary that has been identified as important to master the content area. This link will display a very useful pdf file from the Oklahoma State Department of Education web site. Not only does this pdf file contain the vocabulary but also provides guidance on how to best teach the vocabulary.

  1. Academic Vocabulary

    The Oklahoma State Department of Education has identified subject-specific vocabulary appropriate for the different grade levels and academic areas. They are included in the pdf file below. To include in your PLC Guide and to use in your student learning activities:
    1. Click on the Building Academic Vocabulary.pdf link below.
    2. Print the pdf file.
    3. Include in your PLC Guide.
    4. Integrate the appropriate vocabulary into your ongoing learning activities.
    Note: If you have already included the Building Academic Vocabulary pdf file in your PLC Guide, review the linked file below with the one in your Guide. If there have been changes, replace it with this newer version.
