04 DoK Vocabulary

Knowledge of the vocabulary used to address the four levels of Depth of Knowledge (DoK) is essential for learners and educators alike. This table provides many terms categorized by DoK level.

Teacher Goals

  • As a member of your PLC, you appropriately apply and use key vocabulary essential for student learning and in professional conversations.
  • As an educator, you can demonstrate by your learning activities and student conversations the relative importance of essential vocabulary and the Depth of Knowledge typically addressed by essential vocabulary.

Required Resources

  • This chart provides essential vocabulary learners should know and be able to apply. It includes action verbs such as infer, contrast, and trace among others which are used extensively in testing.

Steps

  1. Using DoK Vocabulary

    If students know and can apply the vocabulary of DoK, it will enhance their testing performance. To help students master the vocabulary, use the language often in your instruction and their learning activities. Consider printing this chart for handouts to your students as a reference.

    2. Print the pdf file.
    3. Include in your PLC Guide.
