Fish in the pond said. "Don't be foolish. Swim in the pond like me." |

Turtle tried to jump, but he could not. Turtle swam in the pond, but he was not happy. He wanted to fly. |

One day Mr. and Mrs. Duck landed on the pond. Turtle soon became good friends with the Ducks. He asked them if they would teach him to fly. "But how can you fly?" asked Mrs. Duck. "you have no wings." |

Turtle thought about this. It was true; he had no wings. But still he was determined to fly. After several months, summer came

"Please take me with you!" begged Turtle. |
|
The Ducks felt sorry for Turtle, so they devised a plan. "We will take you with us," said Mr. Duck. "We will carry a stick in our beaks. You will hold on to the stick with your mouth as we fly." |
|
"But you must be very careful to hold tight to the stick," said Mrs. Duck. "You must promise not to speak until we land." |
|
Turtle promised, so the thee friends flew south for the winter. Turtle was very happy that he could finally fly. He wanted to say," Look how high up we are! but remembered that he must not speak. He saw people down below and thought, "They are so small!" but again remembered to be quiet. Then he notice that the people were laughing at the sight of two ducks carrying a turtle between them on a stick. |

Turtle became angry and said, "Be quiet! I can fly!" and let go of the stick. With a loud thump, he fell to the groud and cracked his beautiful shell.... |

Luckily for Turtle, he was not hurt, so the Ducks picked up the stick again and continued flying south.
