Think-Pair-Share

Think-Pair-Share is a strategy designed to provide students with think time and share time. It is a learning strategy developed by Lyman and associates to encourage student classroom participation. Think-Pair-Share encourages a high degree of pupil response and can help keep students on task.
  1. Think

Provide the students with a question and give at least 10 seconds for the students to ponder the question and formulate possible answers.
  2. Pair

Assign students with partner.  If students are in groups of four, label them 1 to 4 and indicate, for example you tell the class for these questions today, students 1 and 3 will be pairs.
  3. Share

After at least 10 seconds, have the students pair up and discuss the topic or solution.
  4. Class Share

As per teacher instructions, be prepared to share with the class what your partner and you came up with for a possible answer to the question.
