This strategy provides a quick method to using groups to brainstorm ideas and classify them. Based on the classified categories, tables may be constructed to further document a groups work.
Engaging Questions
What is the Process
How can you process the information that is resting on your brain so that others can build on it?
Required Resources
Must Have Stuff
Table space for group work is required.
Pencil or pen to write with.
Optional Resources

Steps
Brainstorming Topic
Determine the topic or task to be brainstormed about.
Sticky Note / Paper
As per teacher instructions, use one sticky note or small paper square to record a single idea or observation.
Brainstorming
Within a group around a table, brainstorm for 60 seconds writing one idea/observations per paper square placing them in the center of the table. (NO talking please!)
Discuss and Group
After brainstorming, place the ideas or observations into groups that are similar. Discuss at your table how each group of ideas or observations should be named. Tape down sticky notes to butcher paper to keep it for next day as needed.
Class Categories
From each group, send a student with the category headers to white board. The students should work together to put like categories together. As per teacher instructions, one may use the final categories to use as headers within a table for recording observations.
Tape to Keep
Use tape to fix the notes to butcher paper. Your "poster" can be used to later for additional activities.
