Cartooning

Cartooning is a great way to think through a reading selection using a creative outlet.
  1. Discuss Reading Selection

After reading the selection, hold a group discussion to discuss the major elements of the text.
  2. Cartooning

Based on the elements of the story discussed, you will have to create a cartoon with six slides.  Following are some options:
    1. Poster Paper

If space is available, consider using butcher paper and draw your cartoon larger for all to see.
    2. SmartBoard

Depending on access, consider looking at using a white board to draw your slides.
    3. Cut Outs

Consider using cutouts from magazines to create your cartoon.
  3. Speech Bubble

Use a maximum of two speech bubbles per slide.  One should have short phrases only.
  4. Share

When done with cartoon, be prepared to present your comic strip with partners, groups, or with the whole class.
  5. Structure

As per teacher guidance, use one of the following or choose another structure for organizing the content of your slides.

    2 Slides:  Beginning of story
    2 Slides:  Middle of story
    2 Slides:  End of story
    Slide 1: Character
    Slide 2: Setting
    Slide 3: Conflict
    Slide 4: Climax
    Slide 5: Resolution
    Slide 6: Opinion
