Cat's In the Cradle by: Harry Chapin

Cow-jumped.jpg

A child arrived just the other day,

he came in the world in the usual way,

but there were planes to catch, and bills to pay,

he learned to walk while I was away,

5   and he was talking for I knew it, and as he grew

He'd say I'm going to be like you dad,

you know I'm going to be like you..

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,

little boy blue, and the man in the moon,

10 When you coming home dad, I don't

know when, but we'll get together

then, you know we'll have a good time then.

My son turned ten just the other day,

he said thanks for the ball dad, come on lets play,

15 Can you teach me to throw, I said not today, I got a lot to do

     He said thats O.K.

and He walked away, but he smiled at

me, and said I'm going to be like him..yea,

You know I'm going to be like him.

20 And the cat's in the cradle and the

silver spoon, little boy blue and the man in the moon,

When you coming home dad, I don't

know when, but we'll get together then,

you know we'll have a good time then.

25 Well he came from college just the other day,

So much like a man I just had to say,

Son I am proud of you can you sit for awhile,

He shook his head and said with a smile,

what I really like dad.. is to borrow the

30 car keys, see you later,

     can I have them please....

And the cats in the cradle and the silver spoon,

little boy blue and the man in the moon,

When you coming home son, I don't

35 know when, but we'll get together

then, you know we'll have a good time then.

I've long since retired, my sons moved away,

I called him up just the other day,

I said I'd like to see you if you don't mind,

40 He said I'd love to dad if I could find the time,

You see my new jobs a'hassle'n the kids got the flu,

but it's sure nice talk'en to you dad, it'

     sure nice talk'en to you,

and as I hung up the phone it accured to

45 me, he'd grown up just like me,

my boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,

little boy blue and the man in the moon,

When you coming home son, I don't know when,

50 but we'll get together then dad,

you know we'll have a good time then.

Little Boy Blue

BY MOTHER GOOSE
Little boy blue,
Come blow your horn,
The sheep's in the meadow,
The cow's in the corn.
But where is the boy
Whe looks after the sheep?
He's under a haystack,
Fast asleep.
