K12 Districts - ALCA Collaboration

Oklahoma school districts are collaborating with ALCA in the development and delivery of powerful, low cost, and more importantly, simple web-based and professional development services. These services focus on data-driven, standards-based tools supporting the growth and ongoing systemic growth of each school district's Professional Learning Community (PLC).

3 areas of emphasis include:

Data Analysis

Oklahoma districts have been using Comprehend to analyze their Oklahoma Core Curriculum Test (OCCT) data for the last two years. A very simple service to use, ALCA staff completed all the difficult tasks of processing and managing their OCCT data. The districts only had to send a copy of their data to ALCA and we did the rest.

Then we went Pro!

Our Comprehend Districts gave us critical feedback and support in the development of Comprehend Pro new with the 2007 OCCT data. Pro also processes 2005 and 2006 data sets. Comprehend Pro is a web-based service providing numerous new options including:

• Multiyear charts plotting standard and objective performance.
• Charts plotting district, site, or group data.
• Groups with different levels of data access.
• Highly improved graphing engine.
• Ability to add or hide table columns.
• Presentations sequencing reports specific to particular needs.
• Ability to update Comprehend Pro with new charts and other features for immediate access to administrators and teachers.

Comprehend Pro can also import student grades, benchmark test data (NWEA for example), and evaluation data from online forms. ALCA has developed a powerful data processing engine allowing importing of diverse data sets.

Professional development we call Laying the Foundation integrates Comprehend Pro data analysis with essential resources linked to the Okahoma State Department of Education's web-based content.

The Foundation PD guides school districts through data analysis, resources for building common vocabulary and workflows, and building SMART Goals for one's improvement plan. SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

Curriculum Mapping

Beginning the fall of 2007 ALCA is collaborating with school districts to seamlessly integrate curriculum mapping into Comprehend Pro. Called Comprehend Mapping, this option will allow the logging of activities (Diary Mapping) during the first year of mapping.

Logging activities will also support reports for lesson plans, substitute resources, and reflection of activities completed. Of course, activity logging will support association with standards, Depth of Knowledge (DoK), and other essential fields.

Other features planned for Comprehend Mapping include:

• Sharing of maps and activities across school districts.
• Linking to uploaded files, curriculum content, and assessments (tests and rubrics).
• Seamless integration with Comprehend Pro assessment data and reports.

Comprehend Mapping is simple to use, very low cost for all staff, and sharable across districts, and highly integrated into other ALCA services.  If your district would be interested in piloting Comprehend Mapping at no cost, please contact Gary Sacket at gsacket@alcaweb.org. 

Comprehend Pro will be available the spring of 2008.

Online Assessments

ALCA is collaborating with school districts, the Oklahoma Department of Career Technology and Education, and the Oklahoma Association for Academic Competition (OAAC) in the development of and delivery of online tests.

As of August 2007, it is possible to deliver practice tests online. It is also possible for using ALCA tests for benchmark assessments. ALCA's intent is to support Oklahoma school districts in the creation and use of valid and reliable assessment items for use to improve instruction.  This effort will begin during the 2007-2008 school year.

This is a test example set up as a review. It includes images, feedback, and multimedia. It is set to randomize both questions and multiple choice responses.
