An ePortfolio is a collection of student work samples demonstrating skills, achievement of standards, or growth over a period of time. The ePortfolio allows the student to select the best examples of his/her work from among such things as completed tests, art projects, written essays, and results of science experiments. Almost any work sample can be displayed electronically.
Due to the nature of the "online" portfolio, the student can utilize the anytime/anywhere feature of the Internet to display the portfolio.
Thus, unlike a hardbound Portfolio, shared with only one person at a time, an ePortfolio URL can be sent simul-taneously to individuals and groups, such as a college admissions director, an engineering firm, or family members and friends in distant communities.

The building blocks of ePortfolios, Work Samples are an invaluable authentic assessment technique. These assessment instruments are driven by a student's ability to prove, by displaying a student-developed artifact, that he/she can meet a local, state, or national standard.
This proven assessment tool is utilized by several national organizations, including the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), to demonstrate the effectiveness of a program.
